Introduction: About study

Through our students and academic staff the university wants to participate in making politics more open, transparent and qualified, and also to contribute professionally to company managements, municipalities and social organizations at both international and regional level. To achieve this the university has a sophisticated study system with a wide range of courses and further options.

Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programme

The university offers accredited Bachelor’s and Master’s degree programmes, which can be studied full time (during week days) or part time (a distant learning programme). Every programme has a different number of compulsory modules, which are usually split up to lectures and seminars and are completed by an exam, credit test or marked credit test. Some courses have specific assessment methods, such as essays, tests, practical tasks, communicative exercises or what is called a joint exam, which requires students to take an exam from a couple of related modules in order to gain credits.

Bachelor’s programme is a three-year programme while Master’s programme takes two years to complete in order to be awarded a degree. There is also a possibility to study individually and the degree is awarded after completing all the components of the programme. Each programme is completed by taking final state exams and defending a written academic work. (so called Bachelor and Master thesis). Each academic year is split into two semesters (winter and summer) and there are usually 14 teaching weeks followed by what is called a credit and exam period in each semester. The number of teaching weeks in a year may vary depending on how demanding the exams are (for more details please go to Regulations and Directives).

Other forms of education

Besides the standard university degree our institution offers a wide range of individual study opportunities, especially within the Lifelong Learning Programme, or specific courses, individual modules etc. Please go to Coming Soon section for more details).

Student work experience placements also represent an important part of the study.
